War in Ukraine might affect Rail Baltica project in long term - Transport Ministry

RIGA, May 24 (LETA) - Assessing the impact of the war in Ukraine on Rail Baltica project, the Latvian Transport Ministry said that a short-term impact is not visible, but in a long term there might be certain consequences because supply chains are disrupted, the ministry said in its report on the Rail Baltica progress to the government.

Consultations among European partners are being held in order to solve the problems.

Transport Minister Talis Linkaits underscored that the geopolitical role of Rail Baltica project has increased as the war started, therefore a plan is necessary on how to build it faster than planned.

t present, construction is ongoing in the Riga Central Multimodal Hub and International Airport Riga Multimodal Transport Hub. There is an ongoing tender for construction of the main track.
