(w/ADD) MPs of New Unity and Development/For have positive opinion about Indriksone's candidacy for economics minister

RIGA, May 19 (LETA) - Lawmakers from New Unity and Development/For have voiced positive opinions about Economics Ministry parliamentary secretary Ilze Indriksone's (National Alliance) candidacy for the post of economics minister.

New Unity could approve Indriksone's appointment as economics minister, Ainars Latkovskis, chairman of the New Unity group in the Saeima, told LETA. The MP indicated that it was up to the National Alliance to nominate a candidate for the ministerial post, and since Indriksone has already been working as the ministry's parliamentary secretary, the National Alliance's choice makes sense.

The chairman of the New Unity group believes that Indriksone's experience obtained as the Economics Ministry's parliamentary secretary, will allow her to quickly take over the helm of the ministry.

Inese Voika, an MP of Development/For, said that the alliance has yet to decide on approving the candidate but that she personally thinks highly of Indriksone with whom Voika has been working in the Baltic Assembly. The board of Development/For respects the National Alliance's right to nominate a candidate for Latvia's next economics minister, Voika said.

Voika also believes that Indriksone will be a good economics minister and that her appointment to the ministerial position will ensure a better gender balance in Latvia's male dominated government.
