RIGA, May 24 (LETA) - The government today supported amendments to the law on support for Ukrainian civilians, stating that Ukrainian war refugees who have arrived in Latvia will be provided with free meals and accommodation for 30 more days.

Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) told the press after the government meeting today that the government will call on the parliament to apply the amendments from today so that there are no interruptions in financing.

"This is necessary as a transition period to avoid uncertainty. As far as I have spoken with heads of local governments, everything is in progress. Transition from hotels to homes or municipal institutions - it is being organized," Karins said.

The support period has been extended by another 30 days for those Ukrainian civilians who had applied to receive the support for 90 days before May 31.
