Vitenbergs is not weak minister, his resignation was demanded just to keep political balance - Karins

Janis Vitenbergs (National Alliance) is not a weak Economics Minister, and demand for his resignation is only related with the necessity to keep political balance in the ruling coalition, said Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) in an interview with the Latvian public radio today.

The prime minister said that Vitenbergs will lose the position because his party has made a decision that destabilizes the government.

"It is not related with his performance, it is more because he is the newest government member from the National Alliance," Karins said.

He said that the contribution of the Economics Ministry in strengthening Latvia's energy independence has been significant, and it is important that this work does not stop as the ministers change. "I am confident that the next minister will take this over successfully," said the prime minister.
