RIGA, May 23 (LETA) - Ukraine's victory and Russia's loss is the only solution to the war, Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) said following the weekly coalition meeting on Monday.

Karins voiced this position while commenting some Western politicians' opinion that Russia's war against Ukraine can be ended by persuading Ukraine to give a part of its territory, which would allow Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to "save his face".

"The only solution to this war is Ukraine's victory and Russia's loss," the Latvian prime minister stressed, explaining that anything else would mean giving Russia time to regroup and rebuild its military for further attempts to "expand or restore its imaginary empire".

Those politicians who believe that Ukraine should give up a part of its territory and the people living there should ask themselves whether they would be ready to sacrifice a territory of their own country, Karins said, concluding that such an approach is absurd.

Justice Minister and leader of the Conservatives Janis Bordans agreed with Karins' position, saying that such absurd suggestions are an indication that Russia is activating its influence agents in the European Union (EU) and other countries in a bid to delay Russia's defeat in Ukraine.
