There are minor turbulences in the government, not a major crisis - Levits

Disagreements in the government in recent days, which have resulted in the replacement of two ministers, could be seen as minor turbulences, not a major government crisis, believes President Egils Levits.

In an interview with TV3, Levits said he was confident that these turbulences would be overcome and the government would continue to work until the next Saeima elections.

According to Levits, the catalyst for recent developments in the government was clearly the police's performance in the park next to the monument to Soviet soldiers in Riga's Pardaugava last week, for which Interior Minister Maria Golubeva (Development/For) took political responsibility and said she was going to step down. "The move regarding the economics minister is an internal matter for the coalition. It is difficult to say whether it was necessary," the president commented.
