Social Networks Cost Lithuanian Employers Eur 20mn Annually

Use of social networks at work costs Lithuanian employers around LTL 70 million (EUR 20 million) per year. On average employees spend 34 minutes a day on social networks.

At work 71 percent of Lithuanians check their email, 65 percent read news online, while 36 percent browse on social networks - revealed a research by recruitment service provider Cvmarket.lt.

Cvmarket.lt representative Raimonda Tatarelyte said that Lithuanians browse online at work mostly looking information for personal purposes (78 percent), compared to online shopping (39 pct) or blogs (18 pct).

Of all social networks Facebook is the most popular. 16 percent of those polled spend 10 minutes online at work on Facebook, while 3 percent spend two hours daily.

A total of 35 percent visit Facebook at least once during working day. 26 percent of employees use communication software Skype at work. While video website Youtube is the third most popular choice among 22 percent of the respondents.

Social networks attract 48 percent of the polled aged 18-39.
