Slight slowdown in number of persons enlisting in Home Guard

RIGA, May 22 (LETA) - Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, 2,868 applications to join the Home Guard have been received, but in recent weeks interest in joining this volunteer formation has slowed down a bit, LETA was told by the National Armed Forces (NAF).

NAF Press Officer Sandra Brale told LETA that the decline in interest over time was predictable. This was also the case in 2014 after the Russian occupation of Crimea, when initially many applications were received, but later the number of applications decreased.
