Size of Latvia's support to Ukraine proves solidarity and awareness of the nature of the war - Levits

RIGA, May 3 (LETA) - The size of the support Latvia has provided to Ukraine proves solidarity and awareness of the nature of the ongoing war, President Egils Levits said in an interview with TV3 channel Tuesday.

Recalling his recent visit to Ukraine, the Latvian president admitted that it was shocking to see the towns near Kyiv ruined by Russian forces and to hear stories of the mines left behind by Russians, including in apartments and under the corpses of murdered people.

Levits noted that visits to Kyiv involve certain security risks for foreign officials but that they must take these risks, as it is much more important to demonstrate solidarity with Ukraine.

Commenting the support provided by Latvia to Ukraine so far, Levits said that in monetary terms, Latvia is in the fifth position behind countries with significantly larger economies and populations.

"Taking into consideration its size, Latvia is providing extremely large support to Ukraine," the president said, adding that Ukraine's military highly values...
