Saeima Subcommittee Approves Proposal That Money Will Be Considered Illegally Obtained If Person Who Owns It is Unable to Explain the Money's Origin

RIGA, Feb 26 (LETA) - Saeima Criminal Law Policy Subcommittee today supported in principle the possibility that money will be considered illegally obtained if the person who owns the money is unable to explain the origin of the money.

According to the subcommittee's chairman Andrejs Judins (New Unity), the legal provision will apply to cash resources, not the person who owns the money. At the same time, the authorities will be able to investigate the person's possible connection to money laundering, said Judins.
