Saeima approves amendments on extending support to Ukrainians for 30 days

RIGA, May 26 (LETA) - Saeima today endorsed amendments to the law on support for Ukrainian civilians, stating that Ukrainian war refugees who have arrived in Latvia will be provided with free meals and accommodation for 30 more days.

"This is necessary as a transition period to avoid uncertainty. As far as I have spoken with heads of local governments, everything is in progress. Transition from hotels to homes or municipal institutions - it is being organized," Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) said after the government's meeting on Tuesday.

The support period has been extended by another 30 days for those Ukrainian civilians who had applied to receive the support for 90 days before May 31.
