Political alliance Development/For plans to pick a candidate for Latvia's next interior minister by the end of this week, Juris Puce, chairman of the Development/For group in the Saeima, told LETA.

The Development/For board at a meeting on Wednesday discussed the current situation, a strategy for the selection of the ministerial candidate as well as the types of candidates worth considering.

Development/For will continue discussions on these matters on Thursday, May 19.

Asked about the process following the alliance's decision, Puce said that as usual, the decision will be communicated to Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity), so that he can have a discussion with the chosen candidate. Afterwards, the candidate for interior minister would be introduced to the government coalition.

As reported, the National Alliance will make a decision on who they will put forward as their candidate for economy minister this week, National Alliance chairman Raivis Dzintars told LETA.
