Riga/Tampere bid remain sole bid for organization of 2023 Ice Hockey WC

HELSINKI, May 24 (LETA) - The Riga/Tampere bid to organize next year's Ice Hockey World Championships has remained the sole bit to organize the tournament, the International Ice Hockey Federation informs.

Due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the IIHF revoked Russia's rights to organize the tournament next year in St Petersburg.

Meanwhile, the other joint-bid of Hungary and Slovenia to organize the tournament has officially withdrawn its bid.

It is planned that Riga would co-host one of the group stages of next year's tournament, as well as two quarterfinals matches, while Tampere would co-host the other group stage, as well as the rest of the knock-out matches.

s reported, Hungary has withdrawn its bid to organized the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championships together with Slovenia, the Canadian sports journalist Gord Miller wrote on his Twitter account on Monday.

Miller writes that this means that the joint Latvian/Finnish bid is the only bid still remaining.
