Preparatory work taking place for potential visit of Danish FM to Latvia in the autumn - ambassador

RIGA, July 31 (LETA) - Work is underway for the visit of the Danish foreign minister to Latvia in the fall, which will provide a good opportunity to exchange opinions on current regional issues, the new Latvian ambassador to Denmark, Inga Skujina, told LETA.

Upon taking office, Skujina has undertaken to pay special attention to the cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy, investment and security policy when building relations between Latvia and Denmark.

lso, the ambassador wants to strengthen the political dialogue between the countries and maintain close contacts with the Danish state and municipal institutions, researchers and representatives of the non-governmental sector.

Skujina emphasized that Denmark has always been one of the most important economic cooperation partners of Latvia - it is the seventh largest export partner of Latvia and the fourteenth largest importing country.

"I want to work more actively in the expansion of economic relations, developing cooperation and investment attraction in areas with high added value. It is expected that cooperation in the field of renewable energy resources will especially develop in the coming years, helping to strengthen Latvia's energy independence," said the ambassador.

Skujina also pointed out that Denmark has historically played an important role in the development of Latvia's armed forces, and it has been one of the leading Nordic countries that has supported Latvia both politically and practically.
