Pless and president of UN General Assembly discuss security challenges in context of climate change

RIGA, July 22 (LETA) - Environmental Protection and Regional Development Minister Arturs Toms Pless (Development/For) and Abdulla Shahid, President of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, discussed security challenges in the context of climate change during a meeting on Friday.

The conversation between Pless and Shahid focused on sustainable development and climate goals, the attainment of which is increasingly important and difficult in the times of current global challenges.

Pless indicated that sustainable development is unthinkable without peace and denounced Russia's military aggression against Ukraine. Shahid agreed that warfare is causing incomprehensible consequences in Ukraine and is also affecting the international order, fostering polarization of society and causing a crisis in food and energy markets.
