People line up to lay flowers at Soviet-era monument in Riga

RIGA, May 9 (LETA) - People were queuing in a park in Pardaugava, Riga, on Monday afternoon to lay flowers at a fenced off Soviet-era monument, LETA observed.

The queue was not particularly long, but the traffic of people in the area had increased since morning. The people flocking at the monument were mostly elderly persons, as well as some families with children.

LETA observed some incidents as well. For instance, a drunk man who was shouting "May 9 - Glory to Russia!" was led away by police officers to the applause of sympathizing bystanders.

Some people expressed discontent when their flowers were placed by the fence featuring a picture of the Ukrainian flag.
