Payment of Social Benefits Transferred to Lithuanian Municipalities
From 1 January, social benefits to the needy will be allocated and paid by municipalities. Municipalities will provide social benefits in accordance with the procedures established by the councils to the extent authorized by the law.
It is hoped that the decision will increase the autonomy of self-government and decrease instances of funding misuse.
