Number of newborns registered in Latvia decreased by 2% in Q1

RIGA, May 13 (LETA) - In the first quarter of this year, 3,939 newborns were registered in Latvia, which is 2 percent or 85 newborns less than in the corresponding period of 2021, according to preliminary data published by the Central Statistical Bureau.

1,326 newborns were registered in Latvia in January, which is by 2.2 percent more than in the corresponding month of 2021, 1,214 newborns in February, which is by 2.6 percent less, but in March, 1,399 newborns were registered in Latvia, which is a decrease of 5.4 percent compared to March last year.

t the same time, in the first quarter of 2022, 8,595 deaths were registered in Latvia, which is by 4.7 percent or 423 less deaths than in the first quarter of 2021.
