No objection from Latvia regarding Lithuania's Baltic Sea wind farm - ministers

KLAIPEDA (Lithuania), May 3 (LETA--BNS) - Latvia has no objections to Lithuania installing a large wind farm in the Baltic Sea near its border, the two countries' environment ministers say.

The future wind farm's environmental impact assessment is currently underway, and Latvia has been introduced to it, Lithuanian Environment Minister Simonas Gentvilas said in the Lithuanian western port city of Klaipeda on Tuesday after a meeting of the Baltic Council of Environment Ministers.

"The EIA will be completed by the end of this year, and many countries have asked to be briefed on it, including Latvia, as the park is just three kilometers from its border. There's no problem with that, we have to work together and not block each other. We talked about how the process can be accelerated as once the assessment is completed, it will be possible to obtain construction permits and call tenders," Gentvilas told reporters after the meeting.
