NATO jets scrambled 9 times to patrol Baltic airspace, intercept Russian planes

VILNIUS, May 3 (LETA--BNS) - Fighter jets stationed in the Baltic countries as part of NATO's air policing mission were scrambled nine times last week to intercept Russian military aircraft and patrol the border with Kaliningrad Region and Belarus, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry has said.

n AN-12 transport aircraft was intercepted on Tuesday, April 26, a SU-24M attack aircraft and an AN-30 reconnaissance plane on Thursday, two AN-30s and an Il-20 on Friday, and an Il-20 and two SU-27 fighters on Saturday.
