More than 60% of residents ready to defend Latvia in case of military attack - poll

RIGA, May 19 (LETA) - As many as 13 percent of Latvian residents would be ready to defend Latvia in a military way in case of a military attack, while 48 percent would be ready to defend the country in a non-military way, according to a survey conducted on Progressives platform PRO Platforma in cooperation with Norstat pollster.

Reasons which would keep people from defending their country include lack of knowledge and skills, fear for safety of their families, low trust in state institutions, dissatisfaction with the country's development, beliefs that engagement of civilians will not change the course of military action and lack of patriotism.

Compared to a poll conducted by the National Defense Academy in 2020, the number of residents who are ready to resist the aggressor with weapons has dropped by almost 20 percent...
