State Security Service sees no reason to ban march against monument to Soviet Army but does not rule out provocations

Ethnic tensions in Latvia's society have escalated lately, which is why provocations at public events cannot be ruled out, the State Security Service warns, although it sees no reason to ban the march "For Getting Rid of Soviet Legacy", planned in Riga this Friday.

As LETA was told at the State Security Service, the final decision on authorizing the march will be taken by the local government.

The State Security Service only provides findings about announced events if they are requested by local authorities or the Security Service has already detected security risks.
