Lithuanian parlt moves closer to granting Landsbergis head of state status

VILNIUS, May 17, BNS - The Seimas of Lithuania on Tuesday gave its initial backing to a bill on granting the head of state status to Vytautas Landsbergis, the chairman of the Supreme Council-Reconstituent Seimas, with 66 votes in favor, 33 against and 16 abstentions.

Initiated by Speaker of the Seimas Viktorija Cmilyte-Nielsen, the bill was put before the parliament almost a year ago, in June, 2021.

The documents states that "the President of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania served as the Head of State of a restored independent Lithuania since March, 11 1990".
