Liepaja port raises cargo turnover 20.3% in four months

RIGA, May 11 (LETA) - The port of Liepaja in southwestern Latvia handled 2.652 million tons of cargo in January-April 2022, which is an increase of 20.3 percent against the same period a year ago, according to the data released by the Liepaja Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

Handling of bulk cargo increased 20.6 percent year-on-year to 1.798 million tons, which included 1.155 million tons of grain, up 30.3 percent from the first four months of last year and accounting for 43.5 percent of all cargos reloaded at the port in the first four months of this year.

Reloading of general cargo grew 35.2 percent year-on-year to 708,300 tons, which included 495,700 tons of ro-ro cargo, and increase of 43.2 percent against the first four months of 2021.
