Levits thanks Latvian defense forces for their professionalism and discipline

RIGA, May 4 (LETA) - President Egils Levits thanks the Latvian defense forces for their professionalism and discipline, the president said today during the military parade dedicated to the 32nd anniversary of the restoration of the independence of Latvia in Saldus.

On behalf of the people, Levits thanked the National Armed Forces (NAF), border guards, police, firefighters and rescuers for their service, professionalism and discipline.

Levits stated that they protect Latvia's statehood and the inviolability of its territory, and emphasized that the state is the highest fulfillment of the nation's will for self-determination.

"You also protect the identity and values of our country and people, the worldview that stems from our culture and the history we have experienced together," said the President, noting that the representatives of the NAF and other mentioned institutions protect the security, peace and freedom of Latvian citizens, "a noble and sacred task".
