Latvian residents welcoming Ukrainians with great sympathy and support - Levits

RIGA, May 10 (LETA) - The people of Latvia are welcoming Ukrainians with great sympathy and support, because Latvians know what war means, President Egils Levits said during a meeting with the Vice Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine Olena Kondratyuk on Monday.

The talks between Levits and Kondratyuk focused on Russia's war in Ukraine, Ukraine's path to European Union (EU) candidate status and Latvia's support for Ukraine.

The Vice-Speaker emphasized that the flag of Ukraine flying over Riga Castle is a great honor for her people who are suffering from war. Kondratyuk also praised Latvia's decision to commemorate the victims of the Russian aggression against Ukraine on May 9. In addition, Kondratyuk thanked Latvia on behalf of the whole of Ukraine.

Levits emphasized that Latvia strongly condemns Russia's aggression in Ukraine and supports the full restoration of Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity, as well as the immediate granting of EU candidate status to Ukraine.
