Latvian nationals' mobility remained high in 2021 - Foreign Ministry's state secretary

RIGA, May 26 (LETA) - Mobility of Latvian nationals remained high last year, the Foreign Ministry's State Secretary Andris Pelss said on Thursday.

Providing consular assistance to Latvian nationals abroad is important part of the Foreign Ministry's day-to-day work.

ccording to Pelss, mobility of Latvian nationals remained high last year despite travel restrictions imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which is evidenced by two things. First, it is the large number of inquiries received by the Foreign Ministry and, secondly, the amount of consular assistance provided to Latvian nationals abroad.

Consular assistance was provided the most to Latvian nationals in Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Morocco and Ukraine, said Pelss.

The consular service not only provides assistance to Latvian nationals in critical situations, but also releases "Travel Alerts" on certain countries and areas where travelers may be exposed to different hazards.
