Latvia's Economic Development Cannot Be Ensured By Immigration Gerhards

RIGA, Feb 26 (LETA) Latvia's economic development cannot be ensured by immigration, said Agricultural Minister Kaspars Gerhards (National Alliance), commenting on possible solutions for shortage of laborforce in Latvia.

The minister said that he has had heated discussions with the Latvian Council for Cooperation of Agriculturalist Organizations (LOSP), including about migration issues.

At the same time, he has always been open for compromises and solutions that will benefit Latvia. The National Alliance is against immigration, but a transparent and clear solution should be found to seasonal jobs in agriculture.
