Latvia prepared to co-host 2023 Ice Hockey World Championships only if Russia and Belarus do not participate

RIGA, May 19 (LETA) - Latvia is prepared to co-host the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championships only if Russia and Belarus do not participate in the tournament, and nobody from these countries are in any way involved in the organizing the tournament, including functionaries, the National Sports Council decided on Thursday.

t the meeting of the Sports Council today, the intention of the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation to organize the 2023 Ice Hockey World Championships in cooperation with the Finnish Hockey Federation was evaluated. Russia was originally entrusted with the organization of the championship in 2023, but its rights were revoked and new potential organizers are being sought.

The Sports Council coordinated Latvia's involvement in the organization of the tournament, which would envisage that one group stage and two quarter-finals matches would take place in Riga.
