Karins emphasizes Canada's important role in the strengthening of NATO's eastern flank

RIGA, May 12 (LETA) - During a meeting with the Speaker of the Canadian Parliament Anthony Rota and the Deputy Prime Minister of Canada - Minister of Finance Chrystia Freeland, Latvian Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) emphasized Canada's important role in the strengthening of NATO's eastern flank, LETA was informed by the Prime Minister's Office.

During the meeting with Rota and Freeland, the Prime Minister thanked Canada for its contribution to strengthening regional security in the Baltics.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the international security situation in connection with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, progress towards a new NATO defense strategy, with a view to strengthening the deterrence policy to be decided at the forthcoming NATO Summit in Madrid in June, as well as support for Ukraine.
