In case of a rapidly increasing number of Covid-19 patients, family doctors will call on the Ministry of Health to deal with situation

RIGA, July 20 (LETA) - In the event that Covid-19 infection rates increase rapidly and family doctors see an influx of patients, they will call on the Ministry of Health to deal with this situation in order to limit the spread of the disease, Sarmite Veide, president of the Latvian Association of Family Physicians, told LETA.

Currently, more and more patients with Covid-19 are appearing in family doctors' practices. This is especially typical for families returning from abroad, after which children and elderly people get infected, Veide said.

She admitted that despite the fact that many family physicians are filling in for their colleagues during the summer holidays, they are still coping with the growing number of patients. At the same time, she noted that it is important to watch how the incidence of Covid-19 will develop in the future. Namely, if the incidence of Covid-19 rapidly increases, then family doctors will inform the Ministry of Health about it and call on the situation to be resolved in order to limit the spread of the virus.
