If the public's attitude towards Covid-19 is frivolous, there may be severe challenges in autumn - Kols

RIGA, July 21 (LETA) - If the responsible state institutions clearly indicate what should be done to reduce the spread of Covid-19, and if there is a frivolous attitude from the public, then it cannot be ruled out that serious challenges may arise in the fall, MP Rihards Kols, vice chairman of the National Alliance, told LETA.

Responsibility must be taken not only by the decision-makers, but also by the public, according to Kols, mentioning that it is necessary to realize that the virus has not disappeared anywhere. The basic principles should be followed - washing hands and maintaining a distance of two meters, as well as the information provided by the Ministry of Health (MoH) should be followed, as the infection rates are currently relatively high, noted the Saeima member.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has called on European countries to take immediate action in connection with the increase in the number of Covid-19 patients, but Kols said that this is a general call and that member states themselves must evaluate and decide on the introduction of restrictions.

"Here we rely on the Ministry of Health, which is responsible for what needs to be implemented at what point, and then a decision will have to be made," said Kols.

He also mentioned that residents can also now choose to protect themselves by wearing a face mask in public places.
