If Russia suspends payment of pensions to Russian citizens in Latvia, they will have to be provided with social assistance - Welfare Ministry

RIGA, May 11 (LETA) - If Russia suspends the payment of pensions to Russian citizens living in Latvia, they will have to be provided with social assistance, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Welfare (MoW) Diana Jakaite told the Saeima Committee for Citizenship, Migration and Social Cohesion today.

The official stressed that at present there is no indication that Russia could stop paying pensions to Russian citizens in Latvia, but if such a situation arises, first of all, the MoW will assess whether it is not a simple delay in transferring money, but if the money will not be transferred the state will ensure the social protection of this population.
