Latvian film director Rolands Kalnins dies shortly after 100th birthday

Latvia's prominent film director Rolands Kalnins has passed away ten days after celebrating his 100th birthday, Latvian National Film Center's representative Kristine Matisa informed LETA.

The filmmaker was born on May 7, 1922 in the eastern Latvian municipality of Ludza. From 1937 to 1940, he studied at Riga State Gymnasium No.1. After World War II, he started working as at the Riga Film Studio as an assistant director.
