Government supports reappointing Straume as Corruption Prevention Bureau's chief for second term regardless of Conservatives' objections

RIGA, May 24 (LETA) - Despite the Conservatives' objections, the government on Tuesday supported reappointing Jekabs Straume as the head of the Corruption Prevention Bureau for a second term.

During the government meeting, Justice Minister Janis Bordans (Conservatives), Transport Minister Talis Linkaits (Conservatives) and Welfare Minister Gatis Eglitis (Conservatives) voted against Straume' reappointment as the Corruption Prevention Bureau's chief.

s reported, Bordans said after a coalition meeting on Monday that the Conservatives' Saeima group had proposed the organization of a new tender for the post of Corruption Prevention Bureau (KNAB) chief.

Straume, the current head of the KNAB, has repeatedly won a tender for the position of KNAB chief, LETA was told at the State Chancellery.
