Gas transmission capacity from Lithuania to Latvia to increase by 1/3 from November - Amber Grid

VILNIUS, Aug 2 (LETA--BNS) - The implementation of the Enhancement of Lithuania-Latvia Interconnection (ELLI) project will be stepped up so as to be able to increase the gas transmission capacity from Lithuania to the Latvian gas system by one-third, to 90 gigawatt-hours (GWh) per day, from November 1, Amber Grid, Lithuania's natural gas transmission system operator, reported on Tuesday.

This advanced increase of gas transmission capacity from Lithuania to Latvia has been agreed by the transmission system operators of both countries, Amber Grid and Conexus Baltic Grid.

ccording to Vytautas Ruolia, Amber Grid's Commercial Director, the increased capacity of the interconnector between Lithuania and Latvia would allow transporting more gas from the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Klaipeda or from Poland to Latvia even before the completion of the ELLI project.
