Foreign minister to start official visit to Australia

RIGA, Aug 3 (LETA) - Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (New Unity) is due to make an official visit to the Commonwealth of Australia from August 3 to 8, the Foreign Ministry informed.

ustralia and Latvia are like-minded countries, and Australia is a close partner of NATO, the ministry said.

During his visit in Australia, Rinkevics will open an Embassy of Latvia in Canberra, the first resident Latvian embassy in the Pacific.

Rinkevics is to meet with Australian Foreign Minister, Senator Penny Wong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Richard Marles, Trade and Tourism Minister, Senator Don Farrell, and the Premier of Australia Peter Malinauskas, with whom current foreign policy and security policy will be discussed as...
