Foreign minister hopes Latvian Embassy in Australia will promote economic cooperation between the two countries

RIGA, Aug 4 (LETA) - Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (New Unity) in a conversation with Australia's Minister for Trade and Tourism, Don Farrell, voiced hope that the Latvian Embassy in Australia will promote economic cooperation and an increase in trade between the two countries.

s LETA was told at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rinkevics during an official visit to Australia on Wednesday and Thursday met with Australia's Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, Farrell and representatives of the Pacific Island Countries residing in Canberra.

In the conversation with the Australian minister for trade and tourism, the Latvian side welcomed Australia's decision to begin bilateral talks on an agreement for the avoidance of double taxation and the prevention of fiscal evasion.

In order to support trade based on international law, it is essential to continue negotiations on an ambitious and comprehensive free trade agreement of the European Union with Australia.
