Estonia: 124 patients treated in hospital for COVID-19

As of Monday morning, 124 COVID-19 patients needed hospital treatment in Estonia and, compared with the same time a week ago, the rate of infection had decreased among people aged over 60.

Hanna Sepp, head of the department for infectious diseases at the Health Board, said that based on referrals by family doctors, mainly people in at-risk groups were tested last week, and of the 11,968 COVID-19 tests performed, 1,126 proved positive.

"The infection rate among people over 60 years of age declined by approximately 27 percent. The decline is partly related to a reduction in overall morbidity as well as a change in testing strategy," Sepp said, adding that the infection rate multiplier R dropped to 0.75. The risk matrix for hospitalizations shows a moderate risk of coronavirus transmission in Estonia.

The number of hospitalizations for the past seven days dropped from 6.7 to 3.3. As of Monday morning, 124 people with COVID-19 were being treated in hospital, 37 of whom required...
