Well-functioning Electricity Market also Within Interests of Latvia and Lithuania - Estonian Minister

Estonian Economy Minister Juhan Parts points out that launching a well-functioning electricity market is in the interests of all Baltic States and Latvia's threats of demanding compensation if Estonia sets restrictions to the interstate electricity connection, is just a misunderstanding.

"We are not talking about restricting the capacity of the connection, we are talking about how the connection is used. Today, it is 100 percent in the hands of the electricity bourse, but we believe that, as long as market rules are not similar, a part of this capacity should be used via auctions, similarly to the past few years," explained Parts.

The minister said that the Competition Board has to take a stance since the current situation is not in line with EU laws.

"Talk about any kind of damage is a misunderstanding, I do not see a reason for this here," said Parts.
