Electric power generation in Latvia down 18% in January-April

RIGA, May 20 (LETA) - In January-April 2022, Latvia generated 2.095 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electric power, down 18 percent from the same period last year, according to an electricity market review released by Augstsprieguma Tikls transmission system operator.

Hydroelectric power plants on the Daugava River generated 1.438 GWh of electric power, which is an increase of 13.4 percent against the first four months of 2021, while Latvia's small hydroelectric power plants' output increased 44.6 percent to 40,547 megawatt hours (MWh).

Thermal power stations generated 296,207 MWh of power, down 65.6 percent from the respective period a year ago.
