Court upholds ban on march planned by Latvia's Russian Union

RIGA, May 27 (LETA) - An administrative district court on Friday upheld the Riga government's decision to ban a march planned by Latvia's Russian Union (LKS) in protest to the removal of a Soviet-era monument in Victory Park, LETA was told at the court.

The administrative district court delivered a shortened ruling dismissing LKS' application and upholding the Riga executive director's May 25 resolution banning the march.

s reported, LKS has announced a protest march in Riga on May 28 from Victory Park in Pardaugava to the Freedom Monument in downtown Riga, the party's co-chairman Miroslavs Mitrofanovs informed on social media.

The LKS march was intended as a counterdemonstration to a march against monuments to Soviet occupiers, which took place in Riga on May 20 and gathered around 5,000 participants, according to police information.
