Cargo turnover of Latvian ports up 15.2% in H1

RIGA, July 18 (LETA) - Latvian ports handled 23.581 million tons of cargo in January-June 2022, which is an increase of 15.2 percent against the same period last year, according to the Transport Ministry's data.

In the first six months of this year, Latvian ports mostly handled bulk cargo 12.294 million tons, which is an increase of 31.9 percent against the first six months of last year.

rain and grain product cargo was reloaded at 2.798 million tons, down 0.1 percent from the respective period in 2021. Woodchip was reloaded at 1.066 million tons, down 0.8 percent, and chemical cargos at 512,700 tons, down 46.1 percent. Coal was reloaded at 4.44 million tons compared to 215,400 tons reloaded in the first six months of last year.

Handling of general cargo rose 12.5 percent to 7.068 million tons in January-June this year. Reloading of containerized cargo increased 16.6 percent on year to 2.477 million tons, reloading of timber increased 6.4 percent to 2.371 million tons and handling of roll on/roll off cargo was up 17.5 percent to 1.995 million tons
