Budget Committee supports increasing contingency funds by EUR 50 million to ensure financing to support Ukrainian refugees

RIGA, May 10 (LETA) - Saeima Budget and Finance Committee on Tuesday supported increasing contingency funds by EUR 50 million in order to provide funding to support Ukrainian refugees in accordance with the Law on Assistance to Ukrainian Civilians.

Individual decrees of the Cabinet of Ministers on the allocation of funds from contingency funds will be prepared for specific measures to be performed and projects to be implemented, along with detailed explanations and calculations.

The Finance Ministry explains that a number of Cabinet orders have already been supported, as well as additional requests from ministries in accordance with the Cabinet's conceptual decisions on support measures to mitigate the impact of the Covid-19 crisis and measures to improve national defense capabilities and foster internal security following Russia's invasion of Ukraine and growing geopolitical risks, as well as support measures for Ukrainian civilians who arrive in Latvia fleeing the war.
