Bite partners with Sweden's Ericsson to develop 5G network in Lithuania (expands)

Lithuania's telecoms company Bite Lietuva (Bite Lithuania) said on Tuesday it has signed a contract with Sweden's Ericsson, spanning from 2022 to 2028, on the delivery of 5G equipment and network upgrade.

The Lithuanian company did not disclose the value of the contract but noted it's the largest-ever investment in communications networks, adding that Ericsson will not only build new 5G base stations but will also upgrade the existing network.

Bite expects Ericsson's equipment to be delivered to Lithuania this year and it will replace the company's older equipment and will also replace China's Huawei equipment in Latvia and within Lithuania's Mezon network.

"Our 5G will enable even faster and more reliable home internet and new generation home TV services. We're already the leaders of the mobile broadband internet today, but our 5G will allow us to challenge any fixed internet and TV provider. We will expand our IT services offering too - from office internet to cloud and data centers. 5G will accelerate the development of IoT and smart cities solutions as well, where Bite Group stands as an unequivocal leader already," Pranas Kuisys, CEO at Bite Group Lithuania, said in a statement.
