Baltic system operators launch joint venture focusing on dependability

TALLINN, May 5 (LETA--BNS) The electricity system operators of the three Baltic countries on Tuesday established a joint venture, Baltic RCC OU, which will start its day-to-day operations in mid-2022, providing services to the system operators that help to strengthen oversight over the reliability of the energy system.

TheBaltic Regional Coordination Center (RCC), based in Tallinn, is one of six European coordination centers that must jointly ensure the reliability of the trans-European electricity system. Establishment of regional coordination centers derives from the European Union's Clean Energy Package regulations and are aimed at performing tasks related to planning of power system operations.

Regional coordination centers focusing on the bigger picture will enable to find commonalities and optimize day-to-day operational processes in the management of energy systems, thereby increasing the reliability of energy systems in all three Baltic countries, the Estonian system...
