About 200 people have gathered near City Hall Square

RIGA, May 13 (LETA) - On Friday afternoon, some 200 people have gathered near City Hall Square, some of which had arrived to an unauthorized protest while others were just observing the situation and did not engage in protest activities, LETA learned from the State Police.

So far, seven persons have been detained, including MEP Tatjana Zdanoka, according to the information at the disposal of LETA.

LETA observed that the police had fully closed access to the City Hall Square.

Members of Latvia's Union of Russians (LKS), the party who initiated the meeting but later called it off because the Riga City Council had not allowed it, had arrived to meet up with the people.

The police are calling on the people to leave the place, otherwise force will be used to disperse the crowd. Most of the people have left the place, and just a few crowds remained, engaged in somewhat heated discussions.
