62 foreigners have been denied entry to Latvia since start of war due to risks identified by State Security Service

RIGA, July 29 (LETA) - Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a total of 62 foreigners have been denied entry to Latvia at border crossing points due to risks identified by the State Security Service (VDD) to the national security of Latvia, LETA found out from the VDD.

Russia earlier this week expressed protest to Latvia over Latvian border guards' actions in relation to Russians entering the country, deputy director of a Russian Foreign Ministry department Ivan Nechayev said. In his words, Russian citizens are required "to sign a prefabricated paper about dissent from the policy of the Russian Federation" before they are let into Latvia.

The VDD cannot comment to LETA on the specifics of its work, but said that it will continue to pay increased attention to foreigners from Russia...
